Why Repurpose?
I am a frugal person. I have always believed in saving things that most people would throw away. It was a bit out of necessity. A couple of years ago I was trying to find something to make for Christmas gifts. My best friend showed me a cute crossover apron she had purchased. I loved it and decided to make my own pattern. I had 10 yards of upholstery material that was given to me by a friend that I had been trying to figure out what I could do with it. A brilliant idea came to mind – I could create cute aprons for my daughters and bonus daughters. They loved them and asked where I had bought them. I told them I had made them. They said I should sell them. So I started looking for cool material at the thrift shop. I could some beautiful curtains and a tablecloth and I knew I could use them to create some aprons and items to go with them! I must admit it has taken a bit to put it all together as life got in the way (I went through a divorce and then got remarried 7 months ago to an amazing guy!).
Cozies, oven mitts, placemats – On My!!!
As I created the crossover aprons I found that I had a good piece left over that was too small for a crossover apron. Again, I turned to what I could make for my children that would be useful. My kids all needed oven mitts! So this last Christmas I went to work making oven mitts. I came up with a nice pattern and went to work. They all loved them and I knew I could make love mitts to match the aprons. I am now working on other items that I can make out of the remaining scraps. I would love any ideas you may have! Just from me an email or even a private message on Facebook. The options are endless! I can’t wait for the next great idea!
